Iolana’s first experience in martial arts was in 2004 when her grandfather introduced her to kung fu at the Lohan School of Shaolin in Las Vegas, where she was a featured lion dancer and martial arts demonstrator.

In January of 2008 she made the jump to mixed martial arts and moved to Warrior Training Center where she trained under Ricardo Cavalcanti 4th degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under world famous Grand Master Carlson Gracie and Mark Beecher (Forrest Griffin’s Muay Thai coach).

In late 2008 Iolana got the opportunity to train with a world class Jiu Jitsu practitioner Robert Drysdale ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship and trainer of former UFC Champion, Randy Couture, Frank Mir, and Forrest Griffin. Since then her Jiu jitsu game has improved vastly and has taken the gold home more than five times in various grappling tournaments including two gold medals at the UFC 100 Fan Expo. She also trains boxing and kick boxing under Gill Martinez and Joey Vamer.
